James Allen Koep, the son of Byron “Bike” and Ethel (Pohlman) Koep, was born on April 9, 1956 in Lakefield, Minnesota.  As a child Jim attended Lakefield Public Schools.  After his schooling Jim briefly worked for Stensrud’s grocery store before being hired to work for the City of Lakefield.  On February 7, 1976, Jim was united in marriage to Rae Jean Goeman at the First United Methodist Church in Windom.  After marriage, the young couple made their home in Lakefield where Jim would continue to work for the city for the next 44 years.  Jim retired from the city in 2015, and he managed to stay retired for two weeks before boredom set in and he went to work with his son at the hardware store.  Jim passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, August 10th, at the age of 61 years, four months, and one day.

Jim truly loved his job.  He loved helping people.  He loved the community, and he loved his family most of all.  He had a great memory, and was a walking blueprint of the city of Lakefield.  He loved doing anything where the sun touched his face.  He enjoyed working with his hands, fixing, repairing, and renovating numerous properties throughout the city.  He had a great visual mind, able to look at a project and see it completed even before work began.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing outside with his grandchildren.  Jim was one of the luckiest men you’d ever meet when it came to games of chance.

Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years Rae Jean; his son Chad (Jennifer) Koep and their four children, Ethan, Madelyn, Brayden, and Christian; his siblings, Judy (Alex) Hudson of Coos Bay, Oregon; Larry (Cindy) Koep of Lakefield; Donna (Darren) Johnson of Jackson; Dean (Dawn) Koep of Jackson; his step-siblings, Jean Weires of Mankato; Laura (Bruce) Manthe of Janesville; Nancy Weires of Janesville, and Carrie Weires of Lakefield.  Also surviving Jim are many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, step-mother Catherine, uncle Clint Pohlman, and his step-brother Stephen Weires.

Blessed be the memory of James Allen Koep.
