Bernice E. Thielhorn

20170715_164227Funeral service will be on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha with Pastor Rick Bremseth officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Jackson immediately following the service.  Visitation will be on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson and on Saturday – one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Bernice Emma Thielhorn was born on May 15, 1925 on the family farm in Jay Township, Martin County, Minnesota.  Her parents were William and Grace (Karnatz) Harries.  She graduated from Sherburn High School in 1943. Bernice was baptized at home on October 26, 1925 and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha in 1940. On January 20, 1944 she was united in marriage to Fred L. Thielhorn at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha.  They lived in Fairmont, Minnesota.  Bernice worked as a bookkeeper at Bob Wallace Mercantile and Grocery.  They moved to Wisconsin Township in 1948 and began farming.  She was a farm wife and mother to her two daughters.  She later did bookkeeping at Johannsen Motors in Alpha.  She worked at J.C. Penney’s in Jackson and Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Alpha.  After Fred passed away, she moved into Jackson in 2000. She became a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Home in Windom on April 13, 2016.  She passed away there on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the age of 92 years and 2 months.

Bernice was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Alpha.  She was active in the LWML, serving as secretary.  She was church organist for over forty years.  She was devoted to her family and was always ready to lend a helping hand.  She belonged to a group for many years called “Just for Friends.”  She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of all of them.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan and husband Pete Kuehl of Saint James, and Paula and husband Steve Johnson of Wadena; five grandchildren, Rachel (Hans) DeFor, Gen (Steve) Theobald, Eli (Lindsey) Kuehl, Jeremy (Melissa) Johnson, Nick (Carrie) Johnson; eleven great grandchildren, Joe, Annie and Will DeFor, Sam and Gus Theobald, Leah and Aaron Kuehl, Emily and Kaitlyn Johnson, Caleb and Garrett Johnson.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and twin sister, Bernette Winter, and numerous other relatives.
