Vickey Lynn VanWesten, the daughter of Lloyd and Jessie (Wittrock) McKenna, was born on February 21, 1951 in Spirit Lake, Iowa.  As a child Vickey attended Harris-Lake Park public schools.  In 1969 Vickey started working for Berkley’s in Spirit Lake as a line spooler, where she would work for the next 47 years.  On April 20, 1974, Vickey was united in marriage to Tom VanWesten at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lakefield. Vickey and Tom lived all over Jackson County, buying a house in Lakefield in 1978.  Vickey passed away at her home on Friday, April 14, 2017, at the age of 66years, one month, and 24 days.

Vickey was baptized and confirmed at the Lake Park Methodist Church, before she converted to Catholicism shortly before her marriage to Tom in 1974.  Vickey was an extremely hard worker, working 7 days a week for most of her life, doing a job she loved, supporting her family.  During the week, Vickey was not to be disturbed during the 11a.m. to 12p.m. hour, for she loved watching “The Young and the Restless.”  Vickey also enjoyed reading, and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren; but not just her children, she loved all children, enjoying them wherever she went.

Vickey is survived by her husband of 42 years, Tom; her three daughters, Faith (Brian) Witt of Ocheyedan, Iowa; Angie (Rustin) Kaderabek of Lakefield, and Amy VanWesten of Lakefield; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Also surviving are two brothers, Victor McKenna of Harris, Iowa; and Emiel McKenna of Arizona.

Vickey was preceded in death by her parents, a son Matthew in 1976, and her sister Bonita Search.

Blessed be the memory of Vickey Lynn VanWesten.
