Vernon “Chris” Christopher
Vernon “Chris” Christopher, 82, of Jackson passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Jackson Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13th at 10:30 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastor Lance Isaacson officiating.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vernon “Chris” Eugene Christopher, the son of Orin and Freida (Lemickson) Christopher, was born on June 23, 1934 on the family farm in Belmont Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. As a child Chris attended Jackson Public Schools, later graduating from Jackson High School in 1952. After high school Chris attended three years of college, first at St. Olaf then at Mankato State, before returning home in 1955 to help on the family farm. On February 9, 1957 Chris was united in marriage to Ethel Olson at the Long Lake Lutheran Church in rural St. James. That same year he enlisted in the Army National Guard. Chris and Ethel lived and farmed in Enterprise Township until moving into Jackson in 1999. Chris and Ethel were married for 60 years. In 2015 Chris entered the Jackson Good Samaritan Center where he passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 17 days.
Chris was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson where he was an active member, serving on the church council and teaching Sunday School and release time. Chris was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He set the bar high, attending every single sporting event of his children and grandchildren. For many years, Chris enjoyed coaching youth sports in Jackson. He was also a member of the Jackson School Board and was a longtime 4-H leader in Jackson County.
Chris is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel, his three sons, Brent (Missy) Christopher, Kevin (Deb) Christopher, and Corey (Morgan Allee) Christopher, all of Jackson. Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Bryce, Sarah, Taylor, Scott, and Ryan Christopher, and his sister Mavis (Harlo) Handevidt.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, his son Randall, and his sister Florence Koep.
