Amanda Faith Schmidt

SONY DSCAmanda Faith Schmidt, 44, of Lakefield, passed away in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Medical Center on Saturday, March 25, 2017.  Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2:30 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield with Pastor Daniel Provost officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday – from 1:30 PM to service time at the Church.

Amanda Faith Koster Schmidt was born September 15, 1972 in Lakefield, Minnesota.  She is the daughter of Joel Koster and Cleo Maynard Wicks.  Amanda was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN. Amanda graduated from Heron Lake – Okabena – Lakefield High School in 1991.  Her secondary education began with 2 yrs. at Iowa Lakes Community College Estherville IA, 1 yr. at South Dakota State University Brookings, SD.  She entered Southeast Tech in Sioux Falls, SD where she studied Vascular Ultrasound Technology, graduating 1996.  Amanda worked 5 years as a Vascular Ultrasound Technician. Amanda’s health declined and was unable to work for a time.  She then chose to change her career path and attended Avalon Beauty Academy.  Embarking on a new career and she was very proud of her Beauty shop business “Inspired Beauty.”

She was married to Jeffery Michael Schmidt August 30, 1997. To this union Katelyn Faye Schmidt was born December 15, 1999. They later divorced but remained friends.

Amanda was an amazing person.  She enjoyed crafting and singing. She enjoyed Karaoke.  Along with her creative talents Amanda had a special soul for love and compassion. She mentored and encouraged many youth in the area. She was there when they needed a friend to talk to.  Her main enjoyment in life was her daughter Katelyn Schmidt. She was so proud of having the chance to watch her grow up and doing things with her. Going for car rides while singing all their favorite songs. They loved going to the drive-in theater and eating at the “Taco House”.  Amanda loved trying out new hair styles and colors on her favorite test subject (her daughter Katelyn) and every style looked spectacular. Amanda had a very close and special bond with her brother Clint.  There was a large age gap between them and Clint could say he had a double dose of mothering.  Her brother and his fiancé Candi enjoyed spending time with Amanda watching her niece and nephew play. Amanda loved her niece and nephew so much she had to remind herself they weren’t her own.  There was still enough love in Amanda’s heart to include animals. Her pride and joy and constant companion LuLu, a rescue Labradoodle was there for cuddling and horsing around. Amanda’s greatest treasure was her bond with her Mother Cleo Maynard Wicks. Her mother was her rock. They would talk or text daily into the wee hours about the days events or frustrations, and they would always tell each other, I Love You.

Amanda Faith Schmidt passed away unexpectedly at Sanford Heart Hospital Saturday on March 25, 2017 at the age of 44.

Amanda is survived by her daughter Katelyn Faye Schmidt of Lakefield, MN.  Mother Cleo Maynard

Wicks, stepfather Neil Wicks, brother Clinton Wil Koster (Candi Rethwill) of Lakefield, MN, step sister Amanda Marie Wicks of Worthington, MN, nephew Keagan John Koster of Jackson, MN, niece Makayla Autumn Koster of Lakefield, MN and many very special aunts and uncles.

Amanda was preceded in death by her father Joel Roland Koster, grandparents Roland and Betty (Blankenberg) Koster, Wilber and Dorothy (Brewer) Maynard, cousins Brenda Rae Maynard Walters, Robin Tiplon, Brian Koster.

  • My heart goes out to all of you at this time. God has his reasons for taking her which none of will understand until you get to see her up in heaven.
