Janet E. (Wrase) Ambrose was born on September 22, 1927 the daughter of Henry and Anna (Schmidt) Wrase in Heron Lake Township, Jackson County Minnesota. She attended school in rural Lakefield. Janet was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church also in rural Lakefield. While roller skating one night in Lakefield, she met a gentleman by the name of Charles Ambrose; on February 23, 1949 they were united in marriage at the St. Peter Lutheran Church. After marriage they moved to Charles’ farm near Alpha, Minnesota. They farmed there until 1981 when they moved into Jackson. They retired from farming in 1983.  The couple enjoyed going on scenic bus trips, fishing trips “up north” and the Jackson County Fair together.  In March of 2010 Janet became a resident of Good Samaritan in Jackson; in May of 2012 she moved and became a resident of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield. Janet passed away at Colonial Manor Nursing Home on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the age of 85 years, seven months, and five days.

Janet became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha in 1949 and has continued her membership there. She was a member of the Alter Society and Ladies’ Aid at Trinity Lutheran. Janet enjoyed gardening, canning her grown goods and embroidering dish towels. She also enjoyed playing BINGO and was a member of a card club and coffee group when they moved to Jackson. Janet’s love was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighbors. They almost always went home with a care package from grandma; maybe brownies, a jar of dill pickles, sour cream raisin pie, or $1 bill. She will be remembered for being a loving wife and caring mother with a heart of gold.

Janet is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles of Lakefield; her children Linda (Rich) Vogt of Okabena, Lois (David) Lucht of Belmond, Iowa, Sharon Carter of Milford, Iowa, and Gary (Renee) Ambrose of Lake Benton; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; her siblings Esther Prins of Heron Lake, Lorraine (Nels) Hanson of Okoboji, Iowa, Elaine (Ralph) Davis, of Minneapolis, and Donald Wrase of Hermantown; and many nieces and nephews.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son David, a sister Ruth Brunk, and two brothers Bill and Loren Wrase.

Blessed be the memory of Janet E. Ambrose.
