Clyde Johnson

CLYDE PEARY JOHNSON  was born on October 12, 1919 in Kimball Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, the son of Tom O. and Emma (Johanek) Johnson.  As a youth, he attended country school in Kimball Township.  After his education, he worked on the family farm until he entered the US Army during World War II, where he served in California for 4 years.  After his tour in the military, he returned home to the farm.  On May 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Ellen Kirkegaard in Aurora, Colorado.  After their marriage, they returned to the farm in Kimball Township.  They remained there until 2004, when they moved to Jackson.  Evelyn passed away on November 26, 2006.  Clyde remained in the house where he passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the age of 89 years and 17 days.


Clyde had been a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he had been baptized and confirmed and later became a member of the Living Word Lutheran Church.  He had been a longtime member of the Gideon’s International.  He had been a member of the Jail Ministry for many years.  He and Evelyn had made many trips back to Colorado, where he enjoyed hiking in the high country and elk hunting.  While back home in Minnesota, he enjoyed trapping and hunting.  He had also been an excellent wood worker making 23 grandfather/grandmother clocks.


Clyde is survived by a son, Russell Johnson of Lakewood, Colorado, a daughter, Diane and her husband, Rick Thompson, of Jackson, Minnesota, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.


Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn, 2 brothers, Floyd and Gordon Johnson and a sister, Mabel Johnson.
